Ally Sloper by Charles H. Ross

Charles Henry Ross, English author and artist, was born in 1842† and died in 1897. He wrote a few novels and many books intended to be humorous, some fifty or more being also illustrated by him. He also wrote a number of "penny dreadfuls" which appeared in The Boy's Herald, The Boys of England, and Wedding Bells. For some years he was editor of Judy, an imitation of Punch and of the same type of humor. Two pseudonyms which he used were "Boswell Butt, Esq.," and "Ally Sloper."
